There is much talk on the blogs about the USA government trepidation around Health Information Exchange interoperability. See below an interesting monthly report I get from the Wisconsin HIE. A very healthy and Quality producing HIE: 2.6 This is a Standards based HIE, based on IHE-XDS and XCA. Fully federated.

It happens that the framework for explaining why the future is bright for HIE comes from the Wisconsin HIE (WISHIN) fall summit. They used the following diagram to show what they viewed as the HIE future. This first step is critical to Interoperability. Note slide decks are now available. If they happen, all the better.

In addition, AVIA published its Top Interoperability Companies Report , with Andor Health topping the list. New York City HIE entity Healthix chose CLEAR identity verification technology for its My Health Record NY portal.

The news isn’t all good, as ONC noted in a blog post , as 68% of vendors are also using some form of proprietary APIs as well. Edifecs said it will now enable compliance with CMS Interoperability and Prior Authorization Final Rule. Provider network management vendor Medallion launched a one-day credentialing solution.

I am very pleased with my chapter in the book, 32 pages: "Interoperability Within and Across Healthcare Systems". I cover quite a bit of ground on Privacy and Security related to EHR and HIE. Much of the material comes from my blog, but even that had to be rewritten to fit the editorial style of a book.
