This month’s chat will be hosted by Erica Olenski Johansen ( @thegr8chalupa ) on the topic “ Back to the Basics: Implications of Interoperability. ”. Starting Simple with Interoperability RRH began integrating external lab data into their Epic EMR to elevate interoperability. Epic, of course, has always been private. Hospital IT was big 15 years ago around HITECH, of course. So are eClinicalWorks and Meditech. Those are three huge electronic health records companies. Certainly AI us currently doing that in health IT, but in the world of interoperability TEFCA and QHINs are grabbing all of the attention. There are a lot of views on TEFCA, but the one thing that’s certain is that it’s grabbing a lot of the interoperability focus from government regulators and the industry.

In the world of interoperability, the announcement of the QHINs and that they’re already starting to share records is a big deal. No doubt there was a palpable excitement about the QHINs being announced and what that’s going to facilitate when it comes to a national interoperability network.
