'The Road Ahead. I grasped the toddler chub of Midori’s tiny hands, her arms swinging wildly as we made our way across the street to the park near our home. My daughter tore away from me and raced up the hill to a small pond near the community garden. I found her staring into the watery surface at the reflection of her round face, while the ducks lined up like battleships waiting for bread crumbs.
For many, the delay of Stage 3 of the Meaningful Use program evoked a collective sigh of relief, providing a much-needed extra year to focus on the challenging requirements for patient engagement and interoperability. As distant as 2017 may seem however, the preparation for Stage 3 is already underway in Washington; the vendor community and providers will soon be scrambling to follow suit.
A positive corporate culture is that seemingly fluffy, immeasurable variable that too many organizations overlook. Sure your company’s culture may be described in flowering detail on your site’s career page, but beyond that, is there any senior-level interest in cultivating it? If you’re in HR, you know better. Especially when it comes to the importance of culture on employee satisfaction.

Two automated reports I came across thanks to the Twitterati. First is SlideShare personalized year in review shows a definite peak in November after I uploaded two presentations I made in Houston on Social Media Intro and Social Media in Healthcare. 'Childhood vaccines became a hotly-contested topic of debate when a small, but vocal, group of parents sounded the alarm that vaccine exposure could cause higher rates of autism. It’s an assertion that was championed by a lone U.K. researcher, Andrew Wakefield, whose licence to practice medicine has since been revoked and whose research has been found to be fraudulent by a leading British medical organization.
What a difference a year has made to the payer market. In late 2012 Chilmark Research published the first version of our Payer Benchmark report — detailing how leading payers were beginning to adopt emerging consumer technologies. We found a market where significant experimentation was occurring, but little if any broad, member wide deployments and a market still trying to understand social media.

This review was originally published on FitnessTechMD by @DrJosephKim These days, stories are buzzing about "wearables" because of the hype generated at CES in Las Vegas. We're seeing LG, Sony, Epson, Garmin, and a host of other companies launching their wearable activity trackers. Don't want to wait for the latest and greatest? I've been testing multiple wearable activity trackers for the past few weeks/months and here I'll be writing about the Polar Loop which retails for $109.95.
Payroll compliance is a cornerstone of business success, yet for small and midsize businesses, it’s becoming increasingly challenging to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of federal, state, and local regulations. Mistakes can lead to costly penalties and operational disruptions, making it essential to adopt advanced solutions that ensure accuracy and efficiency.
'It is an exciting time for research into how to treat Type 1 diabetes. I and my fellow researchers at Perle Bioscience, as well as many other researchers, now understand that combining immunotherapy with new therapies discovered by using the Human Genome Project show great hopes of getting the T1 pancreas working again. But before we talk about where we’re going with T1 therapy, it might be helpful to review where we’ve been: On the evening of October 31, 1920, when Dr.
'Neuropathy is a problem that many people with diabetes can’t avoid. By some estimates, nearly everyone with diabetes will eventually encounter this nerve disease to a greater or lesser extent, depending on their BG control. Symptoms range from tingling in the fingers and toes, to shooting pains, to hypersensitivity, to total lack of sensation. At its extremes, neuropathy can even lead to gangrene and amputation of toes or feet.
'Commentary. People with T1 often must combat the perception that they are somehow fragile and unreliable. While there have been many people with diabetes who work hard to combat that stereotype by becoming elite athletes who compete in grueling competitions (including our own publisher, Andy Holder), the stereotype still lingers. Well, the diabetes community has earned another talking point on T1 toughness with the news that the Chicago Bears have just signed their quarterback, Jay Cutler, to a
'Sometimes, it can take a day of disaster to help people with diabetes to realize they need to be more communicative with those around them about the possibility of hypoglycemia. That was the case for “Dr. P”, a diabetes blogger and English professor who runs the website Diagnosednotdefeated.com. Dr. P, who prefers to go by a pseudonym because she hasn’t told her co-workers about her condition, had a hypoglycemic event that ruined a day of sightseeing in Normandy, France.
Healthcare communication has evolved from handwritten notes and paper charts to digital tools like EHRs, telemedicine, and AI-powered platforms. This blog explores how these advancements improve patient outcomes, streamline care delivery, and enhance provider collaboration. Learn about the role of mobile health (mHealth) apps, secure messaging, and social media in bridging communication gaps.
'I hate dating. Okay, let me back up. I love dating. I love getting dressed up, I love the nerves of waiting for my date to show up, I love all that. But relationships have always been a problem for me because I’m a diabetic. Okay, let me back up. It’s not just because I’m diabetic, but I might as well blame it on something, right? Besides, being T1 adds a layer of awkwardness to a process that already seems laden with enough awkwardness landmines.
'As a diabetes mom, letting go is not easy, even for a short time. The thing about Type 1 is that it’s always on, so you usually can’t catch a break. And you certainly don’t let your guard down when your child is doing something active and lows are likely. That makes our family’s experience with the Riding on Insulin (ROI) winter sports camp in Breckenridge, Colorado all the more unforgettable.
'Hispanics and Latinos make up the fastest-growing demographic of the U.S. population. They also are experiencing the fastest increase in the rates of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and that alarms many public health officials. According to a recent American Diabetes Association analysis of diabetes health data, 52.5% of Hispanic women and 45.4% of Hispanic men will have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes in their lifetimes.
'Commentary. Google has announced the development of contact lenses that can measure glucose levels! The tech giant has put an end to fingerpricks forever! Let the ticker-tape parade begin! Wait, no. Let’s take a deep breath. The name “Google” brings to mind futuristic tech advancements that can revolutionize life as we know it. After all, the company dominates search engine technology and cute cat videos, is on track to develop the first commercially-sold self-driving car, and seemingly has mor

'T1 By Design. From as early as I can remember, my life has always revolved around food. I grew up on a vineyard in Corsica, an island that is a cultural blend of France and Italy. In addition to wine, my family also produced olive oil and grew every kind of fruit and vegetable one can grow under the Mediterranean sun. They also owned a restaurant and a farmer’s market.
'Tandem issued a voluntary recall of some lots of insulin cartridges used for its t:slim Insulin Pump out of concern that the cartridges might leak. The company warns that the affected cartridges could provide too much or too little insulin, and customers should not use them. The lots in question, which contained 10 cartridges each, were sold on or around December 17th, 2013.

'Commentary. Many of us were diagnosed T1 when we were children or teenagers still in school, so we know all too well how difficult it can be to navigate the social minefield of managing diabetes in a school setting with other kids around. What T1 families should expect, though, is to have a strong support system in place from the educators and administrators where you attend school.
'People with diabetes look to tech and drug innovation for the promise of better blood sugar control or more convenient treatment, and many are acutely aware of new devices and drugs working their way through the regulatory pipeline. So when news hits that a diabetes-related product or treatment becomes available overseas but not in the U.S., there is palpable frustration.
