We were able to roll out various digital health tools , telemedicine , and mobilehealth applications that not only better the lives of our patients but also our staff. Mobilehealth technologies, such as nudges, self-scheduling, and asynchronous communication, empower patients to modify their behaviors.
The needle on nudging health consumers to pay subscription fees for data analysis has moved somewhat, noting, for example, the Oura ring successfully inspiring people to pay out-of-pocket for ongoing access to health insights and sometimes coaching hints to stay on-track and alter behaviors.
This is an actual intersection of the Internet of Things for Health — a new riff on mobilehealth/care, literally! As cars grow more connected via Bluetooth like our TVs, autos morph into a third space for health, which I’ve considered here in Health Populi and in some of my futures work with clients.

Looking back to the first chart above under the digital health category, we see wearables, mental wellness, digital therapeutics, and provider solutions. As examples of this, Steve pointed to three CES attendees’ products that speak to self-care empowerment: For telehealth and remote patient management (RPM), Essence’s VitalOn.
Increasingly, that connectivity has enabled people — as patients, consumers, caregivers, Chief Household-Health Officers, self-care proponents, and Quantified Self’ers tracking the most intimate of metrics — to use technology for health, medical, and well-being goals.
The guide offers clarification for billing for remote patient monitoring, synchronous (real-time) asynchronous (store-and-forward) telehealth services and billing for virtual healthcare services, as well as mobilehealth services.
Yet, one of the best examples of health care technologies is also one of its oldest — instant messaging. Every week, a new article comes out promising disruption of medical care as we know it through personalized genetic therapy, app extensions that transform smartphones into ultrasounds or autonomous surgical robots. Read more.
In our report, A Call for Care That’s Personal, Accessible and Social , we identify older patients as “digital immigrants,” newer to mobile platforms and digital health tools…but learning how to speak this new ”language” and work-flows of telehealth, mobilehealth apps, and patient portals.
You can experience the entire press conference here, “Everyday, Everywhere” includes health, which at CES 2025 was further discussed by Hon Pak, SVP and Head of the Digital Health Team for Samsung Electronics.
What enables those deflating cost-reducers is the growing adoption of digital health tools, from telehealth and virtual care to self-care in patients’ hands at home and on-the-go via mobilehealth apps. For example, over 70% of patients are willingness to use a video virtual care visit based on the claim cost of $78.
In my own vision of the retail home health/care ecosystem, these five categories can blur and combinations can serve the consumer’s health at home and on-the-move (for truly mobilehealth, not just “mHealth” via phone apps).
The third chart serves up examples of the manufacturers by category which IRI has divined exemplify winners in the post-COVID CPG marketplace. Wearing our health and wellness lens, IRI’s data has shown broad-based category growth for wellness supplements since 2018, with a 10% growth rate per annum.
The coronavirus spawned another kind of gift to China and the nation’s health citizens: telemedicine, the essay explains. For example, only health care providers that have an existing relationship with a Medicare patient would be eligible per the requirements in the legislation.
Furthermore, digital health tools such as wearable devices and mobilehealth apps enable patients to take a more active role in their health and wellness. These tools provide patients with real-time access to their health data, enabling them to make better-informed decisions about their health.
Growing numbers of consumers are looking at health more holistically — physical and mental wellness together — and spending money on goods to support that goal. Beyond overall wellness, though, consumers are also turning more to food and beverage (F&B) purchases for chronic illness support: for example, U.S.
Evolution and Benefits of DHTs in Neurology Trials DHTs – like wearables, mobilehealth apps, and telemedicine platforms – have for example significantly impacted the design and execution of neurology trials. In a recent review paper appeared on Nature , Mittermaier et al. in 2010 to 11.4%
MobileHealth Services. Mobilehealth uses smartphones, tablets, and other wireless services. This include electronic health records, software applications, and healthcare apps. The post Geriatric Telemedicine – 5 Examples of How It’s Already Being Used appeared first on GlobalMed.
"Digital literacy training as well as cultural and linguistic inclusivity in mobilehealth platform development will further help vulnerable patient populations engage with telemedicine," read the study. THE LARGER TREND.
It shall identify and classify the data collected and develop customised risk management strategies for each type of health data. "For example, [medical devices for remote care] connected to a network are at higher risk of data leakage compared to medical devices that are not connected to a network.
These include the development of a miniaturized self-shielded CT scanner that achieves >80% reduction in size, weight and power from standard scanners along with software that connects remote medical devices with electronic health records and provides real-time, interactive decision support.
Transportation and mobility. Health technology. Health and drivers of wellbeing cross these six trends, and the plethora of services quantified in the on-demand segmentation revealed in the first chart. Digital therapeutics, “new ways to manage health conditions;” and, Fitness tech. Metaverse and Web 3.0
TIME magazine’s coverage of how CES featured telehealth covered four stories including Abbott’s Neurosphere, Jasper Health’s oncology platform, EarlySense InSight at Home, and BioIntelliSense biosticker and biobutton devices for remote patient monitoring.
Very few people trust that social media companies, internet service providers, search engines (like Google), the government, and device manufacturers (Apple, Fitbit, for example) will provide the “best protection” of peoples’ personal data.
Two approaches quantified in this year’s KFF survey are the use of lower-cost settings, such as retail clinics and telehealth, as well as workers generating health data shared via mobile apps and wearable technology. Adoption of wearable tech and mobilehealth apps in companies’ wellness programs is expanding.
Video visits, infrared temperature sensors, mobilehealth, and wearables replace the need for clinic visits. For example, as a patient walks into the clinic, a physician notices his gait. The technology equivalent of this can be gait recognition sensors using mobile accelerometers.
Brian Jones, Chief Growth Officer at Avsis Education, accessibility, and consistency are three essentials to advancing health equity. Expanding community-based care, telehealth, mobilehealth units, etc., Empowering people with knowledge to navigate the healthcare system increases their likelihood of receiving preventive care.
For example, to be cleared as a medical device — which this indeed is — Omron had to use oscillometric technology. We have entered an era where our home and body are becoming our personal health hub. This was one of the FDA’s requirement to clear the watch as a non-invasive blood pressure monitor.
Health care organizations, whether hospitals, health plans and pharma companies, are all quickly working to develop digital health tools to better engage people in health. The patient portal is one such example. For most HealthMine MA plan respondents, portals aren’t viewed as very helpful at all.
The examples of excellence identified previously – Auckland, Northland, Waikato and Canterbury – have continued to grow and others have emerged. “There’s not only an increase in the volume of use, but also in the number of clinical services using telehealth,” she said.
Apple is a good example of building Privacy in by design, and they have few (not zero) issues. Where as Facebook is a good example of hacking privacy on later, although they pushed through the hard part and are much better now. Hack it on later and it is surely going to be problematic.
Obviously, patients have a vested interest in having access to their own personal health history, but the data holds value for other stakeholders as well. For example, providers need a complete patient picture to provide personalized care, and researchers want to aggregate and analyze data to establish trends and predictive insights.
There are other vendors with similar technologies on the health IT market today. For example, to help overcome the challenges it faced with directly observed therapy, the Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services turned to a healthcare technology from Baltimore-based emocha MobileHealth.
An example is a key input of health, such as providing free vaccinations and mobile clinic visits. The team addressed this challenge called “bounded rationality,” which has led to some people reluctant to adopt modern technology.
The example of Dana-Farber is instructive, because ICSC points out that hospital affiliations can provide “greater overall tenant stability and credit ratings” for real estate landlords and developers compared to independent medical practices as a tenant.
There’s a growing evidence base that music bolsters health and cognitive function , and can lower stress. The program is featured in the AARP Showcase of tech focused on the Longevity Economy and healthy aging.
consumers), followed by healthy aging (40%), weight loss or management (37%), digestive/gut health (for 36%), and heart and cardiovascular health promotion (among 30%). Energy is the top benefit sought from food (for 43% of U.S.
Remote patient monitoring will evolve beyond tracking basic vitals to providing predictive health insights through the integration of AI and machine learning. Next year we’ll continue to see remote health technology vendors integrate AI into their platforms.
In healthcare, telemedicine, telehealth, and mobilehealth (mHealth) technologies can help us maintain or improve our health more independently by enabling us to track our health, and access and connect with expert care from where we are.
Patients-as-consumers increasingly expect retail-enchanting service levels from health care – especially as patients pay medical bills increasingly out-of-pocket. Convenience can take the form of time: for example, time to drive to an appointment and/or time required to be away from work to attend to that appointment.
Governments, private companies, and non-governmental organizations are all working to develop and implement digital health solutions that can improve the health of Africans. iSanté also collects data on patient health, which can be used to improve public health. The growth of the internet.
The challenge here is how health IT can be designed with the users in mind, and that means both clinicians and patients as users. A longer-term solution would be for consumers to control their own health data in secure data lockers. There are early blockchain-enabled examples of this emerging, dotted around the world.
For example, a Massachusetts-based physician can only consult patients in Massachusetts unless she is also medically licensed in other states. One caveat to these advantages is that a physician needs to be licensed in a particular state in order to practice remotely there through telemedicine.
